New £1k government funding for companies with between 5 and 249 employees…

November 17th, 2008

Dear SBUK readers,

This arrived in one of my in-boxes today and thought it might be something worth sharing if you're interested.  Details listed below - and if you're definitely interested, please go direct to the website listed - thanks, Caroline

If you are a UK based small/medium enterprise (either commercial or non-commercial), and you employ between 5 and 249 people, **read this email, it may be worth £1,000 of easy government funding to you**.

The government has recently set aside a significant amount of money for UK based SMEs to invest in their own leadership and management development.

I have written a new report explaining this funding (you can download it now from www.traintogain1k.co.uk).

In the report I'll explain to you:

- The exact qualifying criteria you must adhere to to claim your £1,000 of funding for your leadership and management training

- Why 90 days is the magic number you must be mindful of

- The easy step-by-step process to follow when you apply for your funding

- How to immediately turn your £1,000 of funding into £2,500 of practical training… so you can reach deeper and wider into your organisation, beyond just your senior management team

- How to leverage your £1,000 of government funding to quickly upgrade your top-line revenues and bottom-line profits

You can download the report right now from www.traintogain1k.co.uk

Best wishes, Richard Parkes Cordock

Download your 1k report at: www.traintogain1k.co.uk

P.S. Please forward this email onto your friends, family and colleagues who run, own or work in a UK SME - and would appreciate knowing about this new government funding

Obama for UK PM couldn’t happen here - could it?

November 10th, 2008

Dear SBUK readers,

While the rest of the world was still celebrating the unprecedented event that was the election of Obama to the US presidency, the question on many people's lips were: "Could it happen here?"  And this passing weekend, the British had their answer: "No" - courtesy of Trevor Phillips, the chair of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.

While I don't doubt there is some grain of truth that Britain (and indeed, the rest of Europe) is quite happy for the Americans to elect a black person to the highest office in the land, I'm pretty sure that everything would be done behind closed doors to ensure that a non-white person (whether male or female) would be elected to the post of Prime Minister in my lifetime.

For starters, the political system here is very different from our American cousins.  Where it is practically written into the Constitution that all men are created equal in America  (although not true for slaves, of course), at least there is the chance that anyone can become President.  Personally, I didn't expect to see that day in my lifetime.  Secondly, the British - whether they like or not and prefer not to discuss it - are still, at least subsconsciously, pre-occupied with class and money. Let's face it - politics is not a dirty game for poor people.  For what I've observed about British politics, it appears you need to be well-educated, monied and well-connected (if you're traditional Tory - look at Cameron et al in his Shadow Cabinet) and if you're from the Labour ranks, you still need to be relatively well-educated, perhaps not quite so monied, definitely well-connected and have been a lawyer, trade unionist, or business person.

As it is, there's only fifteen non-white MPs in the whole of the UK - fifteen.  And this is the 21st century. In London, where every minority - black, white and Asian and all points in between - are represented in all the languages of the world, there should be more, but there aren't.  Certainly, I've been asked on many occasions when am I going to enter politics (on the grounds that I'd be for the people and not for myself) and my reply has been between "Not yet…" and "Not in this country…"

Could I imagine a day when the British PM is not white?  Not yet… Will it happen in my lifetime?  I doubt it.
